The Raymond Ackerman Academy of Entrepreneurial Development (RAA) is a 6-month full-time programme. To enter the programme the candidates are required to have Matric and they must demonstrate an adequate level of literacy and numeracy. In addition, they must articulate why the programme would be of benefit to their personal and/or business development. The RAA seeks to encourage South African youth to become economically active by either: motivating them to further their education; securing meaningful employment; or, starting a successful enterprise. On completion of the RAA Entrepreneurial Development programme, the alumni are eligible for selection to enter the Raymond Ackerman Mentoring Programme (RAAMP). The RAAMP recruits 30 Alumni from RAA per year. The programme duration is one year with focused activities every 2nd week. The RAAMP capacitates early-stage entrepreneurs to achieve enterprise targets such as Job Creation; Turnover Enhancement; Market Enhancement; Access to Finance; Information Dissemination; and, Technical Skills Development. RAAMP works in close collaboration with both the Internal (UJ) and External Entrepreneurship Ecosystem to accelerate their beneficiaries sustainably to the next level.
Outcomes
The Raymond Ackerman Academy aims to achieve three outcomes;
To motivate the youth to further their education;
To help the youth to secure meaningful employment;
To help the youth from disadvantaged communities to establish a successful enterprise

Admission requirements
NQF Level 4 qualification, either:
- Senior Certificate (2008 or earlier), OR
- National Senior Certificate as certified by Umalusi (2009 or later) OR
- National Certificate (Vocational) OR an equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification.
- Youth ages 18-35 years and interested in starting a business or already in business
