In addition, we offer applied fields such as biotechnology and molecular biology. Furthermore, we present Life Sciences to BEd students registered in the Faculty of Education. Our research focuses on several aspects including anatomy, biotechnology, chemotaxonomy & ethnobotany, medicinal plants, pre & post-harvest physiology, plant taxonomy, systematics and agro-processing. The Department is host to a SARChI Chair in Indigenous Plant Use (one of three in the faculty) and a Research Centre in DNA Barcoding (one of six in the faculty).
