Purpose
The aim of this SLP is to make the process for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) applicants to qualify for Honours level studies at the University of Johannesburg smoother. RPL applicants may have a qualification from the formal education sector, but not in religion or may have a qualification from a religious seminary and are required to follow the RPL route. In certain instances, a bridging course is necessary for the applicants to be ready for the Honours program, and such applicants will be directed to do this SLP. In other words, this SLP is designed to streamline the process related to the RPL admission to the Bachelor of Arts Honours in the Study of Religion or any SLP offered in the Department of Religion Studies at NQF 8 level. The program will provide career enrichment, personal academic development, etc. The successful completion of the SLP is an RPL admission to the Honours degree with the normal RPL University governance approvals required. The SLP can however be done by anyone interested in being introduced to the academic study of religion, even if they do not wish to pursue an honours degree.
