The University of Johannesburg is a research-intensive University whose mission is “Inspiring its community to transform and serve humanity through innovation and the collaborative pursuit of knowledge”.
This mission is pursued through research and innovation conducted across the University’s nine faculties. The faculties include the College of Business and Economics, as well as a Business School.




UJ hosts more than 70 research centres and institutes, including a DSI-NRF Centre of Excellence.
The University is home to over 300 NRF-rated researchers.
More than 20 Research and Innovation Chairs call UJ home, including SARChI Chairs, industry chairs, and UNESCO Chairs.

UJ Press is committed to the goals of open research and open access (OA) publishing.
The Press publishes titles in all disciplines related to Pan-African Decolonisation and the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR).
The Press also publishes co-publications with international publishers, translated titles, and digital scholarship.
