About Prof Jeffrey Mahachi

Academic Profile Jeffrey obtained his BSc Civil Engineering (Hons) degree from the University of Zimbabwe. Upon completion, he was awarded a staff development fellowship which enable him to study for a Masters degree in Structural Engineering at University of Surrey, United Kingdom. Jeffrey then taught briefly at the University of Zimbabwe before accepting a research scholarship to study at Wits University for a PhD in Structural Engineering. His PhD thesis was on vibration behavior of composite floors. During his studies, Jeffrey was also appointed as a Lecturer in Structural Engineering. In 1997, Jeffrey then joined the CSIR as a Research Engineer and completed a Masters degree in Information Technology at University of Pretoria. Jeffrey later went back to academia at the University of Johannesburg in 2017, where he currently holds the position of Head of School in Civil Engineering and the Built Environment Qualification(s) PhD (Wits), M.IT (UP), MScEng (Surrey), BScEngHons (UZ)

Biography
Jeffrey Mahachi is a registered professional engineer (Pr.Eng) and registered construction project manager (Pr.CPM) and a fellow of SAICE. He has previously worked for the National Home Builders Registration Council, where he held several executive positions, worked for the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) as a Research Engineer, and lectured at Wits University. Jeffrey has also been involved in several engineering and construction projects including sustainable human settlements and the roll-out of innovative building systems. Jeffrey has contributed to the development of standards and is passionate about developmental engineering and promoting innovation in the construction industry. He is currently Head of School in Civil Engineering and the Built Environment at the University of Johannesburg and the Director of Sustainable Materials and Construction Technologies (SMaCT) Research Centre. He is also a current recipient of the research fund by the Department of Science & Innovation to promote advanced 3D printing of houses. Jeffrey is also serving as Chairperson of Agrѐment South Africa and is a Technical Advisor to the Council for GeoScience
