Academic Profile 
He completed his BEng Electronic Eng, BEng (Hons) Electronic Engineering, MEng Microelectronic Engineering and Ph.D. Electronic Engineering in 2009, 2010, 2013 and 2020 respectively at the University of Pretoria. He authored or co-authored 17 publications. He successfully supervised 2 Masters degree students and has 6 active postgraduate students (5 Masters and 1 PhD).

Biography 
Johan Venter is a senior lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering Technology in the University of Johannesburg. He completed his BEng Electronic Eng, BEng (Hons) Electronic Engineering, MEng Microelectronic Engineering and Ph.D. Electronic Engineering in 2009, 2010, 2013 and 2020 respectively at the University of Pretoria. In 2014 he joined the University of Johannesburg as a lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology and was promoted to senior lecturer in 2020 after the conferral of his Ph.D. His current research interest includes characterisation of SiGe BiCMOS HBT technology for the application of photodetectors from room temperature down to cryogenic temperatures. Additional research interests include low frequency Microelectronic research, PLCs, Artificial Intelligence in Solar Power Generation and Circuit Breaker Technology. He taught at diploma and B-Tech degree level before it was phased out. He is currently teaching 2nd and 3rd year modules for the new BEngTech curriculum as well as in the new BEngTech (Hons) qualification (1 module and research project students). He is also actively involved in community engagement projects aimed at enticing prospective learner interest in engineering. He serves as an academic EXCO member for the South African Council for Automation and Control (SACAC) as well as a member of the SAIEE Education and Training Committee. He authored or co-authored 17 publications (4 journals, 1 book chapter and 12 conference papers (local and international conferences). He holds a senior membership of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He is also registered as a Candidate Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA)
