About Dr Johan Venter

Academic Profile
He completed his BEng Electronic Eng, BEng (Hons) Electronic Engineering, MEng Microelectronic Engineering and Ph.D. Electronic Engineering in 2009, 2010, 2013 and 2020 respectively at the University of Pretoria. In 2014 he joined the University of Johannesburg as a lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology and was promoted to senior lecturer in 2020 after the conferral of his Ph.D. He teaches various modules (undergraduate and Honors level) and actively supervises postgraduate students. He authored or co-authored 8 conference articles and 3 journals. He has 1 new journal accepted for publication. He holds a membership with IEEE.

Biography

Johan Venter is a lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering Technology in the University of Johannesburg and is engaged in a Ph.D-level study at the University of Pretoria on a full-time basis. He has received his B.Eng, B.Eng (Hons) and M.Eng degrees from the University of Pretoria in 2009, 2010 and 2013 respectively. He submitted his PhD Thesis for examination in July 2019. His current research interest includes characterization of SiGe BiCMOS HBT technology for the application of photodetectors from room temperature down to cryogenic temperatures. He teaches at diploma and B-Tech degree level as well as 2nd and 3rd year modules for the new BEngTech curriculum. He is also actively involved in community engagement projects aimed at enticing prospective learner interest in engineering. He authored or co-authored 11 publications in peer-reviewed journals and at local as well as international conferences. He is also a member of the of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
