About Mr. Arthur Lehloenya

Mahoati Arthur is currently an nGAP lecturer in the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture (FADA) within the Department of Architecture at the University of Johannesburg. His teaching and learning objectives include teaching first- year design modules and examining students across various disciplines in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

He has also provided instruction and guidance in public and private institutions in the field of Architecture and Interior Design. He holds a Professional master’s degree in architecture from the University of Pretoria (UP) (cum laude) 2015 and Master of Philosophy in Conservation in the Built Environment from the University of Cape Town in 2022. His research focused on evaluating public perceptions of the heritage significance of the Adhan Call to Prayer and the Noon Gun Cannon, as well as their social resonance as heritage in Cape Town. Currently, he is developing a proposal for his Ph.D. dissertation, which critically examines African divinity spaces and their potential contribution to an Afrocentric architecture discourse.

Mahoati Arthur has interest in various forms of heritage and cultural productions, as well as how societies navigate their sense of identity within continually evolving urban environments. Moreover, he has keen interest with the diverse aspects of the architectural domain and the ways people make sense of the phenomenology of the senses within the built environment.
