Library Access

From 20 September 2021 the Library hours for all libraries will be:

Monday – Friday: 07:30 – 20:00 
      24 Hour Spaces: 07:30 – 22:00.

Saturday: 08:00 – 15:00
     24 Hour Spaces: 08:00 – 22:00.

Sunday: All libraries will be closed
    24 Hour Spaces will be open from 08:00 – 22:00.

How to access UJ Libraries 

Access to the UJ Libraries can only be granted if you have a valid UJ Card.
NB: Scan your UJ Card at the Entrance Door of the library and again at the Exit Door when you leave!
You do not need to book for library access.
The maximum capacity per library (Max. Patrons allowed per library) 
* APB Library = 182
* APK Library = 950
* FADA Library = 60
* DFC Library = 409
* SWC Library = 300

Borrow and return books

Please return your overdue books now - no fines will be charged on overdue books!

All campus libraries are open and you my borrow and return books as usual.

Visit the Lending self service page to see how you can do the following: 
- Access your patron record (library record) 
- Place a hold on an item 
- Renew items online 
- Access class notes or articles placed on the reserved collection 
- Issue items to yourself (self-checkout)

ILL (Inter-library Loans)
Limited ILL can still be requested for staff and students who qualify. We will continue to try and find items for you, but there may be delays and restrictions on what we can supply.
Books: We are unable to supply books or items that are available in print only. 
Journal articles/Book chapters: We may be able to supply articles and chapters that are available electronically. We will keep you updated about your request.

Do an all-in-one search using UJoogle - find books, journals, articles and other library materials.

E-Course reserves  - all items placed on reserve by a lecturer will show in the Catalogue (UJLink) under Course Reserves. 
To access, go to the catalogue, Select "Course reserves” and follow the prompts. Electronic items can be downloaded or printed.

Lean Library: The Lean Library is a browser plug-in that allows you easy access to the electronic resources of the UJ Library when doing a Google or Google Scholar search. Access to online Library resources (on the Database list)

Access managment is either via WAM or via OpenAthens. If it is via OpenAthens there will be a note next to the Database title in the Database list.

1. WAM Access to Online Library Services/Resources  (Online databases,  “My UJLink”,  UJoogle,  Electronic Course Reserves and Interlibrary Loans)  

  1. Use your UJ Email password and your UJ username (Staff) or UJ student number (Campus Option) OR

  2. Use the current Library Option (i.e. Surname, UJ ID & Library PIN) 

2. OpenAthens Access to Online Resources (Online databases, UJoogle):  
Access online Library resources by using your UJ username (Staff) or UJ student number, and your  UJ Email password.

Your health: Advice for students and staff.

  • How is the library ensuring that students and staff are safe and not exposed to the virus?
    By ensuring that staff work on a rotational basis. The students must wear their masks at all times and sit 1.5 metres apart.

          The library also accepts a limited number of students - each library will only have 60% occupancy at any given time

  • What can I do if I see someone displaying symptoms of Covid 19?
    You can inform staff at the info or circulation desk as well as security services

  • Where can students and staff go for mental health and anxiety support?
