Collaborative BRICS Seminar Series on Crises, Disruptions, and Education

This initiative was funded by the National Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences (NIHSS) BRICS grant and involves collaborations among the SARChI Teacher Education at CPUT,
the Centre of Excellence in Teacher Education at Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, and the SARChI Teaching and Learning at the University of Johannesburg (UJ).

The project comprises a seminar series with four scholarly engagements, producing peer-reviewed publications. It is framed around the crises and disruptions, particularly those caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in India and South Africa,
and how these countries worked to mitigate their effects. A key objective is to foster collective collaboration among researchers, academics, and postgraduate students by developing and implementing a rigorous symposium module that addresses
reimagining research, teaching, and learning during crises and disruptions in education.

To this end, four hybrid symposia were held — two in South Africa and two in India.
