The Technopreneurship Centre is an ideation and innovation HUB where industries’ most pressing unresolved challenges can be addressed, researched and solved by our students, supported by exceptional academics.

The Centre fosters collaboration amongst students and industry partners with regards to building technologies, by involving students in structuring real-life innovative solutions in the form of intelligent software systems, video games, mobile applications (apps), and other forms of technological solutions that addresses business, economical and societal challenges, required by industries, local communities and the government. The Technopreneurship Centre is an integration of the three Departments within the School of Consumer Intelligence and Information Systems namely, the Department of Applied Information Systems, Department of Information and Knowledge Management and the Department of Marketing Management. The Centre also promotes the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) agenda of the University of Johannesburg through applied research that supports the building of innovative technological solutions.

Ultimately, the Technopreneurship Centre aims to empower and inspire students to being technology acquisition driven; to train them to acquire technical skills that help them to prepare for emerging job opportunities; and to enable students to have an entrepreneurial mindset with great knowledge of Technology, Consumer Intelligence and Information’s systems, so they are ready to disrupt the market places!

The School of Consumer Intelligence and Information Systems in the College of Business and Economics, pride itself in preparing students with valued industry skills such as Intrapreneurship. These skills enable our students to apply knowledge and tools acquired in the classroom effectively to address industry challenges through the generation of innovative business solutions. There is a rising need for managers and entrepreneurs that are technologically skilled, and ready to develop and implement the innovative solutions needed to address business and societal challenges.
