Biography
Professor Elvis Fosso-Kankeu holds a doctoral degree in Extraction Metallurgy from the University of Johannesburg in South Africa, he is a Professor in the Department of Metallurgy at the University of Johannesburg. He is currently working on an innovative project for the extraction of values from complex minerals and the remediation of acid mine drainage while promoting circular economy; academically he has been very much involved with research as well as teaching in the fields of engineering and applied science. His research focuses on the sustainable extraction of values from complex minerals and the assessment of the impact of metallurgical activities on the environment (particularly water sources). Projects related to his research include the development of novel hydrometallurgical methods for mitigation of the impact of passivation during the recovery of values from complex minerals, the prediction of the dispersion of pollutants from mining and metallurgical areas into surface-water sources, and development of treatment methods to remediate the pollution. Working in collaboration with research institutes and companies nationally and internationally he has contributed enormously in the field of “mining and environment”. Major achievements include, among others, the registration of two patents], the publication of papers including books, book chapters, journal articles and conference papers with nationally and internationally accredited publishers and presentation at conferences all over the world.
