Postdoctoral Fellowship in Multi-messenger Astronomy
The Centre for Astro-Particle Physics (CAPP) at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, invites applications from suitable candidates for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in the area of Multi-messenger Astronomy. The position is funded by a successful BRICS Science, Technology & Innovation (STI) grant from the National Research Foundation of South Africa for two years. An extension is possible depending on performance and availability of fund. The total fellowship amount is ZAR 300,000 per annum.
The successful candidate will work in collaboration (but not exclusively) with partners of the BRICS STI program on the follow-up of Multi-messenger transient sources using radio and/or optical telescopes. Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience observing with telescopes in South Africa or elsewhere. Duties include scheduling and performing observations, data reduction and analysis, and work with theoreticians on modeling. Co-supervision of postgraduate students and participation in outreach activities are expected.
