A language planner performs all conscious efforts that aim at changing the linguistic behaviour of a speech community. Types of language planning include, amongst others: status planning, which involves all efforts to change the use and function of a language within a given society; prestige planning, which relates to the creation of a favourable psychological background to support language policy and planning; and corpus planning, which includes all activities to change the internal structure or body of a language by creating grammar books, dictionaries, etc. (adapted from Mestrie 2009).
