Globalisation and work reorganisation have been accompanied by intense technological changes at the workplace. Among other things, these workplace changes have led to massive retrenchments of workers, labour flexibility, reconfiguration of skills, intensification of work, and increase in the use of production methods seeking to meet the specific needs of customers. While trade unions have organised some educational and research programmes in the area of workplace change, this form of intervention has been very limited and not consistent. One of the on-going projects at CERT seeks to highlight trade union education and research on workplace changes as an area of research and education which needs serious attention.
CERT has published research in the area of workplace change, skills and technological innovation, and hopes to work closely with workers and trade unions in the process of formulating responses and alternatives.
