About Prof. Soebur Razzaque
Prof. Soebur Razzaque is a distinguished professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Johannesburg. He has held the position of professor since 2013 and has been the Director of the Centre for Astro-Particle Physics (CAPP) since 2018. Prof. Razzaque is also affiliated with George Washington University in DC, USA, where he conducts research visits.
Prof. Razzaque earned his BSc in Physics in 1994 and MSc in Physics in 1996, both from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. He received a Diploma in High Energy Physics from the International Centre for Theoretical Physics in Trieste, Italy, in 1997. He then completed his Ph.D. in Physics at the University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas, USA, in 2002.
Prof. Razzaque’s research interests lie in theory and computation, specifically in Astroparticle Physics and High-Energy Astrophysics. This includes Neutrino, Cosmic Rays, and Gamma-Ray Astrophysics, Neutrino Physics, and Multiwavelength and Multi-Messenger Astronomy.
While serving as a lecturer at CAPP, Prof. Razzaque has mentored postgraduate students and postdoctoral fellows and delivered lectures at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Apart from his lecturing duties, he attends both local and international conferences to present his latest research findings and collaborate with other researchers and physicists.
Prof. Razzaque’s research publications are widely recognised, not only within his department and locally, but also through collaborations with international projects such as the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope, the Cherenkov Telescope Array, and the KM3NeT Neutrino Telescope. In addition, Prof. Razzaque collaborates globally through his associations with MALBRICS and the Fermi-lat Collaboration.

Prof. Razzaque’s research article, written in collaboration with Justin Finke, titled “Possible Evidence for Lorentz Invariance Violation in Gamma-ray Burst 221009A” was mentioned in Nature Astronomy. You can read the mentioned here.
