Purpose
Conflict is a constant feature of societies worldwide. Whilst striving for peace is an important goal, conflict, when handled well, improves relationships and can have a positive effect on organizations, communities and societies. In societies undergoing political and social transformation, conflict happens in a range of institutions such as schools, businesses, places of worship and health and welfare departments. People working in these institutions are often faced with high levels of conflict and want to develop their skills to manage it more effectively.
The aim of the SLP is to introduce participants to the foundations of conflict analysis, intervention, and transformation which can be applied to understanding conflicts at the individual, as well as inter-and intra-group level. They will develop the skills to analyse conflict, identify its elements and sources and support the conflicting parties to create sustainable solutions. This SLP works from the assumption that conflict is an inevitable part of everyday life and, that if managed well it can transform relationships between individuals and teams as well as in institutions.
Career Opportunities
Students taking this SLP would come from a variety of professional settings such as teaching, nursing, coaching, counselling, or personnel management.
