About Prof Muhammad Haron​​

Qualifications:

Prof Mohamed Haron studied at the Universities of Durban-Westville, Cape Town, and South Africa as well as Vrije Universiteit te Amsterdam the King Sa’ud, and Rhodes Universities.  He has taught at the Universities of the Western Cape, Stellenbosch, Rhodes and the National University of Malaysia. Other than participation in numerous national and international conferences, he has published on, Southern African Muslim media, Christian-Muslim relations, Arabic-Afrikaans Literature, Arabic Grammar, Quranic studies and South Africa-Malaysia Relations. Haron compiled two annotated bibliographies; one on South Africa’s Muslims (Cape Town 1998) and the other on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (New York 2009). He co-authored First Steps and Second Steps in Arabic Grammar (Chicago 2007 & 2009) and edited a text on South Africa-Malaysia Relations (Kuala Lumpur 2008). With S.E. Dangor he co-edited the conference proceedings on Islamic Civilization in Southern Africa (Istanbul 2009). He is also the editor of o special issue of Tydskrif vir Letterkunde (Pretoria 2008) on Arabo-Islamic literature in Africa and of BOLESWA: Journal of Theology, Religion & Philosophy on Southern Africa’s Muslims (Gaborone 2012).  Other than being an Research Associate at the University of Johannesburg, he is an Associate Professor of Religious Studies at the University of Botswana​
