About Prof Benjamin Hendrickx
Prof. Benjamin Hendrickx studied Ancient History as well as Byzantine Civilization and History and Oriental Philology at the Catholic University of Leuven, and obtained his D.Ph. (Byzantine Studies) from the University of Thessaloniki. He is editor of the accredited journal, Ekklesiastikos Pharos, and the Encyclopaedic Prosopographical Lexicon of Byzantine History and Civilization (Belgium). He has more than 380 publications mainly in the fields of the ‘Frankokratia in Greece’ and ‘Afro-Byzantina’. His research output earned him international recognition: he received among others the Christoffel Plantin Prize (Belgium), the Gold Cross of St Mark (Alexandria, Egypt), an Onassis Grant (Category IA), an NRF B1 Rating and the title of Commander in the Legion of Honour (Greece). More than 35 MA and PhD students have promoted under his supervision.
