About Ms Sunshine Dlangamandla

Sunshine Dlangamandla is a Johannesburg-based architectural practitioner and researcher.  She holds an Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Studies from the University of the Witwatersrand and a Master of Architecture from the Graduate School of Architecture (GSA), University of Johannesburg, where she deepened her focus on indigenous design, language, and domestic space in Africa.

Her career spans collaborations with architectural firms, international researchers, and academic institutions, contributing to projects such as social housing, public libraries, and residential developments, curriculum developments and documentary screenings.

Sunshine’s current work is rooted in researching architectural pedagogy across the African continent. Her insights have gained international attention, including invitations to critique and tutor at the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London. There, she engaged with Unit 5’s exploration of museums and embassies, contributing critical perspectives on repatriation, cultural sensitivity, and spatial justice.

Sunshine’s practice reflects a deep commitment to culturally grounded, socially responsive, and context relevant architecture— using language and ritual as design tools.

Other notable partnerships include King’s College, London, England (2024); the University of Venda, South Africa (2024); the University of Botswana (2024); Namibia University of Science and Technology (2024); University of Lagos, Nigeria (2024) and Inscape, South Africa (2024).
