About Ms Ntetleng Orepa Mosidi
Ntetleng Orepa Mosidi is a registered professional architect and coordinator of first year degree stream in the Faculty of Art, Design, and Architecture (FADA) at the University of Johannesburg’s Department of Architecture. She earned her Bachelor of Architectural Studies (BAS), Bachelor of Architectural Studies with Honours (BAS Honours), and Master of Architecture Professional (MArch Prof) degrees from the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg.
She gained practical and teaching experience during her tenure at Boogertman and Partners, a prominent African architectural firm, as well as in the architecture department of the University of Free State. In her academic experience, she has enjoyed guiding students at various undergraduate study levels and has also had the opportunity to supervise master’s dissertations, among other responsibilities. She has a strong interest in teaching students about 4IR technologies, which include 3D printing, laser cutting, 3D design software, 3D visualisation.
Ntetleng’s research primarily aims to establish connections between African architecture, African literature, and art to examine African identities and their representation in the field and teaching of architecture. This connection with African literature was further established at the 18th DoCoMoMo conference in Chile where African literature served as basis for exploring hybrid and informal urbanisms.
Moreover, her commitment to investigating the narratives of black women in architecture is evident in her participation in the 2023 ICAG VI International Conference on Architecture and Gender in Valencia, Spain. In a paper for the conference, she used African literature to establish connections between black women’s experiences in society and the architectural field. In evolving this conversation in 2025 she was involved in the IAWA( international archive of women in architecture) symposium in which she explored how mentorship could help retain young black women in the profession. Resulting in recent activations at Parktown Highschool for Girls’ career expo in pursuit of establishing guidance for young women wanting to enter the profession
Ultimately, her objective is to exert influence in the realms of her academic endeavours and regions of fascination.
