Title: Lecturer, Department of Industrial Design
Ashton completed a BTech Degree in Industrial Design at the University of Johannesburg in 2014 with a dissertation project titled “Applying product experience and human factor theory to the design of a paediatric drip stand”. This research focused on how the design of a paediatric drip stand can improve patient’s hospital experience and product usability for staff.
After completing her BTech, Ashton worked as a Junior industrial designer at Manmade Group, a retail design, manufacture and shopfitting company, while furthering her studies part-time, obtaining a postgraduate advanced diploma of Business project management through UCT.
During 2018-19 Ashton completed her MA Design qualification which she was awarded Cum Laude and received the Chancellors Award for Most Meritorious Student in FADA. Her dissertation was titled: “Defining a Design Process Model for Paediatric Medical Device Design in the South African Context.”
