About Ms Afua Wilcox

Afua Wilcox is a professional architect and senior lecturer in the Department of Architecture at the University of Johannesburg. She is currently pursuing a PhD at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. With over a decade of experience in the design of state-subsidized housing, her work focuses on the intersections of governance and spatial design in housing development.

Afua is the co-founder of Youth and Women Up, a Southern Africa-based non-governmental organization dedicated to mental health, economic empowerment, and sexual and reproductive health rights.

Her research and practice are driven by a deep commitment to housing design and related rights for low-income communities across Sub-Saharan Africa, and she is equally passionate about exploring healing practices through feminist frameworks.
