About Mr Johan Rademeyer
Johan matriculated in 1978 in Durban, Kwa Zulu-Natal, after which he pursued his undergraduate studies at the University of Stellenbosch. Upon completion of his BA degree and HDE (post-graduate), he initially gained experience as a language teacher in the Eastern Cape, during which time he completed his B Ed (Hons), specializing in child psychology through the University of South Africa. Hereafter, Johan took up a position as a School Guidance Counsellor.
Upon completing his Masters Degree in Child and Educational Psychology (MEd (Psych)) at the former University of Port Elizabeth (now NMMU) in 1994, Johan entered private practice as a Child and Educational Psychologist. During this time he developed a deep understanding of, and compassion for, the problems in disadvantaged and marginalised communities, an interest which lead him to develop a number of psycho-education intervention programmes. Amongst others, Johan developed a psycho-educational HIV/Aids card game, which serves to facilitate a full understanding of the pandemic.
After fifteen years as a private practitioner, Johan joined the UJ academic team in January 2013 at the Teacher Education Campus in Siyabuswa as Lecturer in Education Studies (Childhood Development). This academic environment provides him with an opportunity to share his experiences and knowledge in the field of child and educational psychology.
Johan is currently reading for his PhD in Educational Psychology. His study focuses on the impact of dysfunctional family systems and its impact on the developing child.
