About Prof Victoria Graham

Ass Prof Victoria Graham is Senior Director: Strategic Initiatives and Administration at the University of Johannesburg. She obtained her PhD in Political Studies at UJ in 2013. Her research interests lie in the areas of democracy studies (particularly, the quality of democracy), African Small Island Developing States, comparative politics and South African democracy and development. In 2015, her book entitled Pass of Fail? Assessing the Quality of South Africa’s Democracy in South Africa was published. Prof Graham is also passionate about active citizenship and youth development and, as part of her community engagement, acts as the academic consultant/advisor for Engage South Africa, an NPO that offers leadership and civic education programmes and workshops for South African youth through its ‘My Voice’ programme. In 2020, Prof Graham became the Executive Director of the Consortium for Regional Integration and Social Cohesion-Social Elevation (RISC-RISE) – an academic body that seeks to promote regional integration to address socio-ecological vulnerability across the world.
