About Dr Fatima Ismail

Dr Ismail is the Head of the Chiropractic Department at the University of Johannesburg (UJ). Over the past six years, she has served as a full-time lecturer, making a significant positive impact on the department while embodying the core values of UJ. In 2021, Dr Ismail earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Research Supervision with distinction. She was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2022 and appointed as Head of Department in January 2023. Currently, she is in her third year of doctoral studies, focusing on interprofessional education.

Dr Ismail has a robust publication and presentation record, both locally and internationally, within the chiropractic profession. Her work, which emphasizes chiropractic education, has earned her accolades, including a journal best paper award. Recognizing her expertise, she has been appointed to the board of the Chiropractic Educators Research Forum and serves as the department’s Research Ethics Representative.

In 2023, Dr Ismail received the prestigious UJ Vice Chancellor’s Award for the Most Promising Young Teacher. She has also secured a national research grant, demonstrating her ability to attract external funding. Dr Ismail boasts an excellent track record in supervising master’s degree students, ensuring they complete their degrees within two years.

Known for her efficiency and dedication, Dr Ismail is highly respected by her students. She is committed to fostering a deep understanding of content and a passion for learning. Balancing her professional achievements, she is also a devoted mother to three daughters. Dr Ismail’s career exemplifies dedication to education, research, and leadership in the chiropractic field.
