About Prof Christopher Yelverton

Professor Christopher Yelverton is an esteemed Associate Professor in the Department of Chiropractic, Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Johannesburg. His academic journey began with a Master of Technology in Chiropractic from Technikon Witwatersrand in 2000, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Business and Finance for Medical Professionals from the University of South Africa in 2001, and culminating in a PhD from the University of Witwatersrand in 2022.

Professionally, Prof Yelverton holds several prestigious qualifications, including an International Chiropractic Sport Science Diploma and a fellowship at the Royal College of Chiropractors. He was also revered with an Honorary Life Membership by the Chiropractic Association of South Africa in 2022. His commitment to ethical practices is evidenced by his completion of all courses in T.R.R.E.E. ethical training and a BLS certificate.

Professor Yelverton’s career in academia and professional practice is extensive. Beginning as a part-time lecturer at Technikon Witwatersrand, he rapidly progressed to a full-time position, eventually becoming the Acting Head of the Chiropractic Department. His tenure as Head of Department continued at the University of Johannesburg, where he served from 2005 to 2022. Currently, he is the Associate Professor and Acting Vice Dean for Research and Internationalization at the same institution. Concurrently, he managed private chiropractic practices in Parkmore and Benoni, reflecting his dedication to both education and practical application.

His influence extends beyond national borders. Prof Yelverton has played significant roles in various academic and professional committees. He has been a longstanding member of the Faculty Higher Degrees Committee and Senate at the University of Johannesburg. Nationally, he has chaired the Chiropractic Association of South Africa’s Gauteng Branch and the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa. Internationally, he holds leadership positions in the European Council on Chiropractic Education as President and serves on the Chiropractic Educators Research Forum and the World Federation of Chiropractic.

Prof Yelverton is a prolific researcher with numerous publications in high-impact journals, addressing various aspects of chiropractic practice and education. He is also an invited speaker at international conferences and contributes to academic discussions through his roles in editorial boards and as a reviewer for several scientific journals. His contributions to chiropractic education and practice have been recognized with multiple awards, including the Chiropractic Association of South Africa’s Presidential Award in 2017.
