2019 Speaking Engagements
Professor Patel travels extensively, delivering lecturers and keynote addresses at universities internationally and across South Africa. These lectures make an invaluable contribution to the field of social development and are an important avenue for Prof Patel to share her research and that of her colleagues with a broader audience. The research is also contributing to a growing interest in learning from welfare and social policy initiatives in low and middle- income countries. This development is now popularly referred to as ‘Southern Welfare’ or social welfare in the Global South which has not followed the same trajectory as welfare systems in the Global North.
