OPEN CALL FOR POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWS 

The Palaeo-Research Institute is a renowned pan-African research hub located in the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Johannesburg. The institute is dedicated to the exploration and understanding of the ancient past, with a particular focus on the evolution of early hominins. The Palaeo-Research Institute @UJ is a multi-disciplinary, inter-faculty group with an extensive international training and research collaborative network. We represent a holistic approach to human evolution in sub-Saharan Africa covering the past 4 million years.

 

Who are we looking for?

The Institute is currently seeking qualified PhD holders to apply for a Postdoctoral Fellowship valued at R250 000 per annum (see call for 200 new  UJ Postdoctoral fellowships) with an interest in pursuing a career in the following topics: Geo-archaeology, landscape archaeology, Fossil hominin predation, Bone Taphonony, Use-wear fracture mechanics in bone tools, Fossil Plio-pleistocene Primates,  Earlier Stone age Archaeology, Sub-Saharan Middle Stone Age Archaeology,  Tracing ancient cognition, DNA analysis of Stone Age populations.

We are seeking individuals who have received international training, possess enthusiasm and a strong drive to pursue a post-graduate degree, exhibit proficiency in both written and spoken English, have a proven track record of academic excellence, and hold a PhD in fields such as biological anthropology, archaeology, ecology and evolution, biology, neurobiology, ethology, or a related subject.
