About Prof Aleksei Oskolski

Aleksei Oskolski is an Associate Professor at the Department of Botany and Plant Biotechnology.  He also has a part time appointment as Leading Researcher at the Komarov Botanical Institute (St.Petersburg, Russia).  Before joining the University of Johannesburg in 2014, he held various research, teaching and journalism positions in St.Petersburg, Hamburg, and London. Aleksei’s research interests are mainly focused on structural diversity of wood, bark and flowers within selected plant groups in relation to their evolution, biogeography and ecology. His favourite group is the plant order Apiales. Aleksei also carried out the pioneering studies of fossil woods from the Paleogene and Neogene of China.
