Children under the age of 5 are not permitted to enter the venue. Please refrain from bringing children with to the ceremony. There are no suitable facilities for children at the venue.

E-tickets will be emailed to graduates in the week prior to the candidate’s respective ceremony.

Autumn 2024 graduation ceremonies dates will be published by November 2023 for candidates who complied with the requirements to graduate by 15 December 2023. Usually scheduled across February, March and April

Winter 2024 graduation ceremonies are scheduled between across May and June for candidates who comply in January, February and March 2024 due to supplementary or special exams or masters and doctoral candidates who are approved at relevant committees.

 

I have not heard anything about my graduation ceremony. What is happening?

Online qualifications are non-ceremony qualifications. Check with your faculty if you are unsure if your qualification is online.

Ensure that your personal cell phone number and email address are updated with the university and download your letter on the graduation page of the UJ website. There is no downloadable letter for 2020 and 2021 candidates only an email with registration links.

Check your graduate status on the UJ Chatbot on the home page of this website.

If you have completed credits from another tertiary institution, the results may not yet be on the University’s system or you may not have submitted documentation for credit. Please contact the relevant faculty.

If none of the above applies to you and your name does not appear on any of the graduation programmes please contact your relevant faculty to verify if you comply with all the requirements for your qualification to be awarded.

I want to take official graduation photos and I want to purchase or hire a graduation gown?

Photography Supplier

On stage photos as well as family photoshoots can be ordered at your own cost.

I have completed my qualification, but have not yet received confirmation of my graduation?

If you comply with the requirements to graduate in the Summer 2023 graduation ceremonies, you should receive a graduation letter by the 11th of September 2023.

Ensure that your personal cell phone number and email address are updated with the university and download your letter on the graduation page of the UJ website.

Check your graduate status on the UJ Chatbot on the home page of this website.

When and where are graduation ceremonies presented?

Summer 2023 ceremonies will be held at the UJ Auditorium, on the Auckland Park, Kingsway Campus between 11 October 2023 and 25 October 2023. (Compliance by end July 2023)

Autumn 2023 ceremonies were held at the UJ Auditorium, on the Auckland Park, Kingsway Campus between 27 February 2023 and 26 April 2023. (Compliance by end December 2022)

Winter 2023 ceremonies were held at the UJ Auditorium, on the Auckland Park, Kingsway Campus between 2 May 2023 and 19 May 2023. (Compliance by end March 2023)

 

Can I postpone my ceremony?

You cannot postpone a ceremony and your qualification will be awarded in absentia.

Can my family view the ceremony online if they are unable to attend?

Your classmates, family, and friends may view your ceremony from anywhere in the world.

Is there a limit to how many family members can view the ceremony online?

There is no limit on the number of persons who can view the ceremony online.

Will the ceremony be available to view after the initial publishing date?

The recording of the ceremony will remain accessible on the UJ website and may be viewed at leisure.

How will I receive my academic documents (certificate and academic record)?

Graduates will collect their hard copy certificates at the ceremony.

Graduates are encouraged to also register on the digital certificate platform to enable them to view and share their certificate/s online https://digitalcertificates.uj.ac.za

Should you not attend the ceremony you are required to make an appointment with your faculty to arrange for collection within 3 months from the date of graduation.

Academic Records may be download through iEnabler.

I have outstanding fees. Will I receive my graduation documents?

Unfortunately, until all fees have been settled or an acknowledgement of debt form has been signed with student finance, will the graduation documents be released online as well as hard copies thereof.

What is the process for courier collection?

A courier can be arranged for the couriering of the certificate. Kindly see the costs below should the graduate wish to make use of this service. Costs are subject to change.

Is there a possibility that I can receive my certificate before the graduation ceremony?

Unfortunately, until all the certificates have been printed and published this will not be possible.

Who qualifies to be UJ Alumni?

Alumni refers to all persons who have obtained a state-subsidised qualification from UJ or its predecessors Rand Afrikaans University (RAU) and Technikon Witwatersrand (TWR). It is important for you to understand what alumni means as well as the different forms of alumni.
Alumnus is a male singular, who has graduated from an institute of higher learning.
Alumna is a female singular, who has graduated from an institute of higher learning.
Alumnae is plural for females who have graduated from an institute of higher learning.
Alumni is the collective term for both genders who have graduated from an institute of higher learning.
Pre-Alumni is the collective term for students that are still on the journey to obtain their qualification from an institute of higher learning.
