The Centre for the Study of Race, Gender, and Class (CSRGC) at the University of Johannesburg is an African-focused but globally recognised and competitive entity for research, teaching, and advocacy on racial, gendered, and classed issues. Guided by UJ’s core values of Integrity, Innovation, Inclusion, and Impact, the Centre conducts cutting-edge research on the complex intersections of its thematic areas. It generates critical scholarly and policy outputs, adopts multidisciplinary research, teaching, and advocacy approaches, fosters community-centred social impact, and sustains strong local and global partnerships aligned with its mission.

To be a leading voice in intersectional studies and interdisciplinary intellectual endeavours that shape the dynamics and understandings of racial, gendered, and classed issues on the African continent.

An African-centred entity that produces transformative research and output through an intersectional lens, contributing to African knowledge systems on the realities and complexities of race, gender, and class, with an ultimate drive towards social impact and inclusion.
