The Institute of Intelligent Systems, Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment, invites you to a talk entitled: Nanomaterials and Catalysis – a Multidisciplinary Approach to solve Environmental Challenges of Today” presented by Dr. Philipp-Alexander Primus, Potsdam University, Institute of Chemistry (Germany) and UP Transfer GmbH (Germany)

Time: 11h00 – 12h00

Date: 12 May 2022

Venue: Nadine Gordimer, Level 4, UJ Library, Kingsway Campus

Brief bio of speaker:

Dr. Primus research is informed by the global challenge to produce clean energy and he is leading two joint industry research projects with innovative companies in the emerging Solid Oxide Fuel Cell market in Germany. His recent work focuses on functional nanomaterials based on cerium oxides. With a strong background in the use of optical techniques to answer analytical questions his interdisciplinary approach aims to generate insights by using complementary methods of investigation, spanning from advanced Electron Microscopy to catalytic investigations, involving companies and multiple research institutions.

Abstract of presentation:

Fuel cell technology offers a novel way for storage of renewable energy and could be one of the keys in the efficient use of green electric energy in the near future. This presentation will outline the process of investigation from ideation and grant writing to acquiring industry partners and cover the scientific investigation and results spanning two projects. There will be time for questions and discussion after the presentation.

Ideal audience:

Researchers and graduate students in chemistry, chemical engineering, physics, as well as people interested in renewable energy technology, particularly fuel cells.
