About Ms Boitumelo Kembo

Qualifications: National Diploma (Graphic Design) Vaal Triangle Technikon, B-Tech (Graphic Design), Vaal University of Technology

Short Bio: Boitumelo Kembo has worked in the Department of Multimedia since May 2017. Boitumelo’s key teaching areas are typography and design. Boitumelo is currently completing a Masters in Art History with a focus on an African-oriented aesthetic, at the North West University under the School of Communication. Her dissertation titled: Exploring African-orientated aesthetics in Garth Walker’s i-jusi issues of Afrika Typografika is a postcolonial indigenous critique of the Roman Serif. Her current research focus revolves around alternative thought and authoring strategies in type design with an emphasis on multi-vocal narratives in typographic design.

Supervision Areas

Boitumelo’s areas of interest include typography, illustration, design aesthetics and Africanist thought strategies in design that foreground a decolonial aesthesis.
