Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education

Purpose

The purpose of the programme is to develop academic staff as reflective practitioners by focusing on the relationship between theory and practice and the ways in which each informs and enriches the other, expanding, strengthening and consolidating their knowledge of teaching, learning and assessment in higher education in the South African context, facilitating their ability to develop, implement and assess informed and responsive curricula and related pedagogy, including learning with technology, developing their capacity as educational researchers.

Admission Requirements

At least a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and currently be engaged in teaching and learning in a higher education/FET institution or have had a minimum of one year’s experience in such an institution at the time of registration OR a general NQF level 6 first degree or diploma, plus a 120C NQF level 7 Advanced Diploma in Teaching/ Postgraduate Certificate in Education
(PGCE) and currently be engaged in teaching and learning in a higher education/FET institution or have had a minimum of one year’s experience in such an institution at the time of registration.

Selection Process

An average of 65% for the previous degree is required to be allowed into the programme.In addition to the minimum admission requirements.

Prospective students may undergo a selection process, including personal interviews and testing.
