Smart Home Lab: The research focus in this research group is wide but mainly focus on communications in Smart homes, Energy management and security. Smart grid is also covered in our research as well as the impact of Artificial Intelligence in Smart cities.

We have two projects running at the moment: SA-Tunisia NRF fund and UJ-CSIT IoT project fund.

Smart Power and Energy Systems Research Group

The Chair of Smart Power and Energy Systems Research Group conducting research in the following areas: Distributed Energy Storage, Demand Side Management, Demand Response, Energy Poverty, Electromobility, Smart Energy Management, Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy Technologies, Microgrid design, Distributed Energy Generation, Rural Electrification, Energy and Gender Poverty Nexus.

Data Science Across Disciplines Research Group

The research group focuses on data-related research and development within a cross-disciplinary space. We aim to develop and advance methodologies, algorithms, tools and techniques in a holistic manner within the field of data science by working in the following areas: Data Wrangling, Data Mining, Data Analysis and Visualisation, Data Engineering, Data Science, Machine Learning Engineering, Fairness, Accuracy, Confidentiality, Transparency, Security (FACTS) and Discrimination in Data.
