Professor Letlhokwa George Mpedi, the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Johannesburg (UJ),has been appointed to the International Association of Law Schools (IALS) Board of Governors.
IALS Members had to vote at the end of 2018, and the result was unanimous. In accordance with the Association’s Charter, Prof Mpedi’s term commenced on the 1st of January 2019, and will run for three years.
Says Prof Mpedi: “Through its membership to the IALS, the Faculty of Law (UJ) manages to drive itself towards the realisation of its strategic objectives such as the following: international profile for global excellence and stature, excellence in teaching and learning and fitness for global excellence and stature. Therefore, I urge our peer law faculties / schools to join and remain members of the IALS to benefit from the excellent opportunities it provides and help shape national, regional and global legal education.”

Earlier in 2018, Prof Mpedi agreed to serve out the remaining term of Prof Obeng Mireku, demonstrating his commitment in terms of time and resources necessary to actively serve a term as a member of the Board of Governors and support the work of the association. Professor Mireku was Dean of University of Fort Hare, Nelson Mandela School of Law, South Africa. He was appointed Vice-Chancellor of Wisconsin International University College in Ghana.
