​UJ Chair of Council, Mike Teke, held an online book discussion on Thursday, 25 June 2020, which focused on ‘My Vanishing Country’ by Bakari Sellers. Sellers is the son of Dr Cleveland Sellers, the US Civil Rights activist. This memoir focuses on the life of Bakari Sellers growing up in the US and how he experienced the life of African Americans, as well as his ability to learn from the history of the civil rights movement. This important book illuminates the lives of America’s forgotten black working-class men and women.
