UJ’s Prof Theo Veldsman co-editor of the biggest Leadership book in Africa

Date: Oct 25, 2016 | News

Two internationally-recognised thought-leaders on leadership, Prof Theo Veldsman, Head: Department of Industrial Psychology and People Management at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), and Andrew Johnson, General Manager: Eskom’s Leadership Institute, teamed up with over dozens of highly-acclaimed experts to produce the most comprehensive and “biggest” business leadership book ever published in South Africa. With 89 contributors, 56 chapters, 1000+ pages, and featuring a foreword from Advocate Thuli Madonsela, the book Leadership: Perspectives from the Front Line addresses leadership from every possible angle.

UJ has a total of 16 academics who contributed chapters of the book, making UJ the biggest contributor.

Prof Veldsman, Prof Crous, Dr Odendaal, and Prof Hollander will be some of the UJ academics presenting at the Leadership Conference from 25 to 27 October 2016 at the Hyatt Regency Johannesburg Hotel in Rosebank.

Says Prof Theo Veldsman: “This book combines almost all the knowledge and expertise on leadership from some of the most notable leaders, academics and researchers in leadership positions in Southern Africa. On Wednesday, 26 and Thursday, 27 October, we will be unpacking the book in the context of leadership, profiling leaders, the need for leadership assessment, women leadership, leadership wellbeing and thriving leadership communities, and the future of leadership. It is worth attending this conference.”

The leadership education and development industry is worth over R500-billion worldwide. Yet, despite the vast amount of money invested, trust in leaders is at an all-time low. Research has shown that the primary reason for leadership failure is a lack of contextual perspective. This is where Leadership: Perspectives from the Front Line is different to the thousands of other leadership books available. It provides cutting-edge thinking about leadership. It synthesises the latest insights from SA’s top leaders and experts on leadership – offering readers practical tools they can implement immediately.

Advocate Thuli Madonsela agrees, saying, “I hope this book will assist our leaders, particularly our young and corporate leaders, to enable our country to make the much needed and desired giant leap into the inclusive, prosperous and peaceful future we all yearn for, so passionately.”

This book costs R1, 500.00 and is available for purchase directly from www.kr.co.za or Exclusive Books and selected CNA stores.
