UJ: Women in Leadership explores leadership qualities

Date: Aug 19, 2015 | News

Women In Leadership

Women continue to be underrepresented in the decision-making structures of business which means that the voice of 51% of the South African population is not sufficiently heard. This is the perspective of Prof Anita Bosch, a leading academic researcher of the Women in the Workplace programme and Professor in the Department of Industrial Psychology and People Management at the University of Johannesburg (UJ).

“Imagine a world where we will not ask about the gender of a leader but, instead, focus on leadership quality, as there would be equal opportunities for both men and women to engage in workplace and leadership roles. That is, a world where the gender debate is no longer necessary. The Women in the Workplace programme is striving for this reality,” says Prof Bosch.

This, and other robust discussion points by prominent women leaders, will form part of the Women in Leadership event at UJ on Thursday, 20 August 2015 at the Kingsway Campus at 17:00. The event that celebrates Women in Leadership is a partnership between the UJ Library, the Citizen Newspaper and The Nelson Mandela Foundation.

Ms Nandi Mayathula-Khoza, MEC for Gauteng Department of Infrastructure Development, will be one of the women who will engage with other women and the public in the UJ Library. She will be joined by are Prof Hlengiwe Mkhize, Deputy Minister of Telecommunications and Postal Services; Prof Anita Bosch from the Department of Industrial Psychology and People Management, UJ; Vera Kriel, Founding Director of Blazar Advisory, an accelerator for investable businesses focusing on the African Entrepreneur; and Limpho Monyamane, Chief Financial Officer at The Nelson Mandela Foundation.

Entrance to this engagement is free and open to the public.
