UJ to host the launch of the National Science Week 2012

The Minister of the D​​epartment of Science and Technology (DST), Ms Naledi Pandor, will launch the 2012 National Science Week (NSW) at the Soweto Campus of the University of Johannesburg (UJ) on Saturday 28 July 2012.
National Science Week (NSW), an initiative of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) is a countrywide annual week-long event aimed at highlighting the important role that science plays in everyday life and encouraging more youth to participate in science, mathematics, engineering and technology related studies and careers. NSW is also intended to expose the public and educators to science-based careers.
The NSW with the theme The Role of Science in Economic Development and the subtheme is Sustainable Energy based on UN’s “International Year of Sustainable Energy For All”, will run from Monday 30 July to Saturday 04 August 2012. Learners, students, teachers, academics, parents and the public at large will have the opportunity to participate. Across the country in all provinces multiple events and activities have been planned. These include learner outreach programmes, science competitions, public talks, career exhibitions, seminars, learner and teacher workshops, as well as science shows.
UJ Soweto Science Centre will lead the Faculties of Science, Engineering and the Built Environment, and Health Sciences to participate in its planned NSW activities. The activities include UJ Science Day in Bhukulani Secondary School in Soweto on 03 August 2012. Surrounding schools will converge in Bhukulani Secondary School to participate in the planned activities for that particular day.​
