University of Johannesburg’s (UJ) head of finance Ms Nolwazi Mamorare is the first University Chief Financial Officer to be nominated for the prestigious 2019 CFO Awards since the award’s inception in 2014.

Ms Mamorare was nominated for the CFO Awards for being instrumental in turning UJ’s finance department into a sound environment.

The CFO Awards 2019, known as the ‘Oscars for South African finance professionals’, gives CFOs of listed companies, large corporations, state-owned entities and government institutions the opportunity to be recognised and rewarded for their exceptional performance and leadership.

“I am immensely honoured that UJ has been recognised alongside other distinguished private and public sector organisations. As we are the first university institution in the country to be acknowledged, I will continue to ensure that we sustain and improve the good work that has been invested in the finance function,” said Ms Mamorare.

Her vision when coming into the role was to lead a finance team that provides a service that is of a global standard and that focuses on the needs of stakeholders and also ensures financial stability and sustainability of the institution.

“This nomination validates that CFO’s should not be undervalued and it is our duty to highlight the great work that they do which involves a huge responsibility. Ms Mamorare’s leadership in accomplishing what she envisioned is well deserving of a CFO Awards nomination,” said John Deane, CFO South Africa Community Manager.
