Date: Sep 14, 2017 | News
According to the latest QS Graduate Employability Rankings, published on the 12th September 2017, the University of Johannesburg (UJ) has been placed in the 301-500 rank range of global universities.
This is UJ’s first entry into this ranking and it is placed joint 4th in South Africa along with Stellenbosch University, also debuting, and the University of KwaZulu-Natal. The Universities of Cape Town, Witwatersrand and Pretoria took the top three places nationally, positioned in the ranking brackets 101-110, 201-250 and 251-300, respectively.
The QS Graduate Employability Rankings is arguably the most extensive attempt to make a global comparison of the employability outcomes achieved by higher education institutions. It is an innovative exercise designed to provide the world’s students with a unique tool by which they can compare university performance in terms of graduate employability outcomes and prospects.
This ranking celebrates 500 leading institutions, up from the 300 evaluated in last year’s first official 2017 edition, based on five key aspects of graduate employability: Employer Reputation, Alumni Outcomes, Employer Partnerships, Employer-Student Connections, and Graduate Employment Rate.
According to the UJ 2017 Student Employability Survey report, more than 92.5% of students who graduated in the years 2011 to 2016 and obtained employment, did so within a year. Furthermore, UJ’s graduate output for 2016 was in excess of 12 700 students and UJ produces the largest number of black accountants of all accredited universities in the country.
UJ has featured in a number of prestigious rankings in 2017, which include:
- UJ’s debut entry into the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU)
- UJ climbs in QS World University Rankings, placed amongst the top 2.3% globally
- UJ maintains top 100 spot in latest QS top universities under 50 rankings
- UJ research recognised in Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings
