UJ: Prof Jannie Otto’s book examines the National Credit Act

The recently published book authored by a Law Professor at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), has in the past contributed to the development of South Africa’s Consumer Credit Law – providing a practical and systematic guide to what is a very complex piece of legislation.

Prof Jannie Otto, a Professor of Law at UJ has recently published a book titled “The National Credit Act Explained”. The book, published by LexisNexis publishers, examines the National Credit Act of 2005 and related matters of a wide field including: money-lending transactions, mortgages, secured transactions, instalment sales, leases of movables, rendering of services, suretyships, pawn agreements and the like.

Says Prof Otto: “Previous editions of the book enjoyed tremendous success and has been used and referred to by other academics in articles, books and theses and by attorneys, advocates, magistrates and legal advisors in practice.”

The first edition of his book appeared in 2006 when Prof Otto was still the Executive Dean of the UJ’s Law Faculty. His daughter Reneé-Louise BA LLB (RAU) LLM (cum laude) (UJ) assisted him since the second edition.

“The book is a prescribed work in some universities. It has been quoted and referred to in many reported cases by the high courts including in decisions by the Supreme Court of Appeal and the Constitutional Court,” concludes Otto.
