UJ maintains top 100 spot in latest QS top universities under 50 rankings

Date: Jul 17, 2017 | News

The University of Johannesburg (UJ) has retained its position for the second year running amongst the top 100 universities in the latest 2018 edition of the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Top 50 Under 50 Rankings, a sub-ranking of the well-established QS World University Rankings, which were released on the 13th July 2017.

UJ is delighted with this recognition, which reaffirms the notable headway that UJ has made in attaining global academic excellence, competitiveness, and world-class status.

The QS Top 50 Under 50 Rankings celebrates the world’s leading young universities that are under 50 years of age. UJ is the fifth youngest institution included in this list, which contains both the ‘Top 50 Under 50’, and, for the first time, the ‘Next 100 Under 50’ universities – enumerating, in total, the world’s 150 leading institutions founded after 1967. This list allows some of the world’s top young universities to shine, rewarding those which have established themselves in a short space of time.

With the extension of the list this year, both UKZN and NWU feature in the next ranking bracket, 101-150. UJ’s international partner in Singapore, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), claims the top spot.

UJ was similarly acknowledged earlier this year as one of the top 200 universities in the world in the Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings, which also celebrates young emerging universities.
