UJ FEFS students to tour Maponya Mall for learning purposes

Date: Jul 27, 2015 | News

On Tuesday, 28 July 2015, the University of Johannesburg (UJ), the Maponya Foundation and Barloworld Motor Retail will take a group of students in the Faculty of Economic and Financial Sciences (FEFS) on a tour of the Maponya Mall, Soweto Volkswagen and Soweto Toyota dealerships to learn about the working of a business and entrepreneurship. This is part of the Faculty’s student experience initiative aimed at exposing undergraduates to real-work environments.

Mr Sam Tsima and the dealer principals of both Soweto Volkswagen and Soweto Toyota as well as the Chief Financial Officer of Barloworld Motor retail will engage the students on the skills needed to run a proper business and learn about investments opportunities. The students will be taken on a behind-the-scenes tour of the Mall procedures and construction and other parts which the public is not exposed to.

According to Marie van Rensburg, Lecturer: Commercial Accounting, the motive of the tour and the two dealership visits is “to enhance student experience, i.e. practical application of their studies, teaching about entrepreneurship, assist UJ in producing ‘better graduates’.”
