UJ Executive Dean to lead Education Sector Committee

The University of Johannesburg (UJ) has once again, with its wealth of expertise, proven itself a formidable player in the education sector​

The Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, has appointed Professor Sarah Gravett, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Education at the UJ to serve as Chairperson of the Education Sector Committee of the South African National Commission for UNESCO.

The South African National Commission (SANATCOM) forms part of UNESCO, and is a body that serves in an advisory, facilitative and coordination capacity between the SA Government and civil society. SANATCOM supports the UNESCO development and values by coordinating efforts and delivering expert advice on issues of education, science, communications and culture.

​Africa is a priority for UNESCO and education is key to the continent’s development. UNESCO’s programmes towards the African continent have been built up in such a way that they are focus on the challenges that Africa is facing, and the Education Sector Committee forms a crucial part of meeting South Africa’s education development goals.​​
