Two UJ students, part of select SA team, for USA leadership programme

Date: May 16, 2017 | News

Two students from the University of Johannesburg (UJ) were selected for a seven-month leadership programme in the United States of America (USA).

Letlhogonolo Maimane, studying towards a Bachelor of Law degree, and Gratitude Lebogang Mosehla, studying towards a BCom Finance degree, are part of a 20-member team, representing the Universities of Johannesburg, Cape Town, Stellenbosch, the Western Cape, and Pretoria, who will participate in the 2017 South African Washington International Programme (SAWIP).

SAWIP is aimed at inspiring, developing and supporting the students to be ethical, servant leaders and active citizens in delivering quality, sustainable community development within under-resourced and marginalised communities. The vision is to contribute towards social and economic justice as well as the deepening of democracy in South Africa.

SAWIP places great emphasis on the participants’ ability to work in a team, factoring this into the selection process. The programme enhances team working skills as part of its leadership development curriculum.
