Transcriptomic, the help for in vivo and in vitro nanotoxicology

The Faculty of Science’s Department of Chemical Sciences invites you to a public lecture by Dr Olivier Joubert (Université de Lorraine, France) on: “Transcriptomic, the help for in vivo and in vitro nanotoxicology”.

The lecture will describe the interaction between nanomaterials and cells based on the recent finding of Dr Olivier Joubert’s research group. The team developed two in vitro rat macrophage cell models, as an alternative to in vivo. After determining the chemical properties driving the toxicities of a set of more than 45 nanomaterials, transcriptomic studies were conducted. The biological partway that are involved in the high toxicity of nanomaterials (Endoplasmic reticulum stress, mitochondrial dysfunction.etc) will also be discussed. The last part of the talk will be
dedicated to comparison between three different mode of exposure i) submerged rat macrophages cells ii) air-liquid-interface rat macrophages cells and iii) in vivo rat inhalation.

Dr Olivier Joubert is a biochemist and molecular biologist. During his PhD, he worked on the mode of actions of bacterial toxins. His post doc was
dedicated to structural-activity studies of membrane proteins. Since 2009, he has been an assistant professor in toxicology at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Université de Lorraine. He focused his research on the identification of the mechanisms of toxicity of xenobiotics,
and especially of nanomaterials.
