Thabang Steven Lebese and Ngoanamello Rammala sign for ABC Motsepe League side African All Stars

The 2021 edition of the FNB Varsity Football tournament changed a number of University of Johannesburg (UJ) Football Club players’ lives as some of them signed for professional teams in the Premier Soccer League and the second division ABC Motsepe League. The UJ senior men’s football team won the tournament in fine style, leading the log from start to finish.

Recently, student-athletes Thabang Steven Lebese (former captain) and Ngoanamello Rammala have signed for African All Stars, a team in the ABC Motsepe League which recently participated in the 2022 Nedbank Cup round of 32.

“I’m settling in well, doing my best daily and the players welcomed me so well. It’s a great experience playing in the league. It is more competitive and has great exposure,” says Lebese.

Lebese obtained a BA in Politics qualification at UJ and is now in his second year enrolled for a Diploma in Sports Management.

Both Lebese and Rammala have a one-year deal with an option to renew each year and have also made their debuts.

“It feels like I’m finally stepping into a world of new, exciting challenges and I’m ready to embrace it,” says Rammala, a BA Honours in Public Management and Governance student.

Other UJ student-athletes from the same 2021 FNB Varsity Football team who signed with teams in the PSL and ABC Motsepe leagues included Thulani Zandamelo and Tumelo Molubi for Mamelodi Sundowns FC’s affiliate club M-Tigers. Former UJ striker, Tristan Nikitaridis had also signed a three-year deal with PSL side Baroka FC in late 2021.
