Sustainable construction researcher appointed as UJ Engineering Vice-Dean

Prof Clinton Aigbavboa, an active researcher focusing on sustainable and low-cost housing development has been appointed Vice-Dean: Postgraduate Studies, Research and Innovation in the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment at the University of Johannesburg. He assumed his duties on 1 Aug 2017 for a three-year term.
Prof Aigbavboa also serves as the Head: Sustainable Human Development and Construction Research Centre, in the Department of Construction Management and Quantity Surveying, School of Civil Engineering and the Built Environment. His research interests include affordable housing; construction engineering and management; construction education and training; technological innovations in the construction industry; construction project management; sustainable construction; and construction economics.
Prof Aigbavboa holds a rating of “Promising Young Researcher” with the National Research Foundation and was awarded the UJ Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Award for the most Promising Young Researcher of the year in 2015.
Prof Aigbavboa has published peer-reviewed articles in journals, conference proceedings and in book chapters. His Google Scholar Profile can be found here.
He co-authored the book ‘Sustainable Value Management for Construction Projects’ published by Springer Nature, and co-authored ‘Contractor Health and Safety Compliance for Small to Medium-Sized Construction Companies’ to be published by Taylor and Francis Books in Sep 2017.
He is also editor of the Journal of Construction Project Management and Innovation, a DHET accredited journal.
Prof Aigbavboa gained his PhD degree in Engineering Management from the University of Johannesburg in 2013. After working in the construction industry for eight years in various capacities as a project quantity surveyor, cost estimator and in project management capacity, he joined the UJ Department of Construction Management and Quantity Surveying in July 2007 as Part-time Lecturer. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer in October 2014.
